70% of solitary native bees are ground nesters, including the bumblebee, but crawling through inches of mulch (not to mention plastic) when you're only 1/2" long is pretty much impossible. So remove that mulch from parts of your sunny flower beds so these terrific pollinators can burrow and reproduce. You'll have free pollination all summer long.
