Digger Bees

This beautiful native bee is a Digger Bee.  As that name suggests, these bees excavate their nesting tunnels in the ground.  Check out her hairy legs – that’s a good thing in the bee world!

Look how fuzzy her back legs are – perfect for collecting and distributing pollen to and from the flowers she visits.

What a pretty bee!  Digger Bees have quite fuzzy bodies, which makes them excellent pollinators.  Since they nest in the ground, like Bumble Bees and hundreds of other non-stinging native bee species, please leave some sunny bare spots in your yard for them to nest in — and don’t use chemicals!
